Dani Mátalon

Birth Assistant | RN

Dani is a registered nurse who is called to offer care throughout pregnancy, birth and the early postpartum experience. Prior to earning their nursing degree, they worked as a birth and postpartum doula in New York and Western North Carolina, and as an early childhood educator in the Montessori method before that. As a nurse Dani gained experience in the Emergency Department at Mission Hospital, where they honed their clinical skills, critical thinking, and the nuance of staying present and calm in varied settings and situations.

At Asheville Birth & Wellness Center they blend together their intuitive person-centered care and acute care nursing to offer safe, affirming, and inclusive care for all. Dani is especially motivated about creating trans and queer inclusive spaces for birth and wellness—places where all bodies, identities, and families feel seen, respected, and supported. They feel deeply honored to help create a nurturing environment for all the folks they meet alongside such an incredible team of birth workers.

When they’re not at the birth center, Dani enjoys playing claw hammer banjo, dance of all kinds, puppeteering, river swims, and participating in land projects with their friends.
